Philips PerfectCare Silence - a review

Philips PerfectCare Silence - A review

I was recently sent a Philips PerfectCare Silence - a pressurised steam generator iron. I have never used a steam iron before. To be honest, I rarely ironed before. I just had a bog-standard £20 iron which one of my best friends had bought for me (clearly they do not know me all that well). Anyway, I digress, my husband has always ironed his own clothes, I iron what I need for that day and I try and keep the kids clothes flat so they don't get too crumpled. What can I say, I am pretty lazy and I don't have a lot of spare time to be ironing.

This has all changed with the addition of the PerfectCare Silence into my life. It is quite honestly one of the most amazing things I have ever used. My husband and I have been pulling crumpled clothes, duvets, cushion covers out, daring the iron to try and de-crease them. An oh my, it has. It really, really has. Even the shirt which my husband hasn't worn for approximately seven years because we have never been able to get the creases off has been revitalised and worn again. The duvet my mum made for my son has always been creased, even after ironing it countless times, but no longer. It is so smooth now.

What they say

Building on the success of the first Philips PerfectCare steam generator, PerfectCare Silence is the world’s quietest, high performance steam generator*. Featuring Philips’ revolutionary Optimal TEMP technology, the PerfectCare Silence offers the perfect combination of low sound, steam and temperature allowing you to iron any fabric without the need to adjust settings.

Combining a revolutionary cyclonic steam chamber to release steam at a consistently high pressure (where other steam generators may leak or deliver little/no steam) together with a Smart Control Processer, the PerfectCare Silence keeps the soleplate at a constant temperature – even when left on fabrics for up to five minutes, there is no risk of burning or marking clothes.

There is no need to pre-sort clothes or to change temperature settings, and the ability to go from linen to silk to cotton to cashmere without waiting means that you can save time on ironing and spend more time doing the things you really love.

Good points
This is an amazing iron. Honestly, I never thought I would utter those words.
You do not need to adjust the temperature. It just knows the right heat (I have no idea how). You can switch effortlessly between denim and silk.
It cuts down the time spent ironing. I only had to iron one side of everything! Amazing.
It really is silent, unless you are using the steam function.

Bad points
It is quite bulky but I understand that steam irons are. It probably only takes up twice as much room as a normal iron though.

Would I buy it?
If I could afford it then I would definitely buy it. I am not sure that a student loan is designed to for such extravagance! Whilst it is expensive to me, if you can afford it then this would be an amazing investment.

It's so tedious pushing an iron up and down, up and down then burning yourself cos you got your hand in the way, or melting the tshirt pattern because you nearly fall asleep since it's so tedious.
