Disney on Ice Review

My children and I were very excited to go and see Disney on Ice in the First Direct Arena in Leeds a few days ago. We saw it last year and have since been to Disneyland Paris, so there was a bit more excitement this year. Last time I hadn't told the children that we were going, and it was a huge surprise to them when we arrived at the arena.

This year the show was different and it was really nice to see some new characters on the ice. My daughter’s favourite was The Lion King and my son loved Peter Pan. I thought that The Lion King could have done with a few extra characters, but I think that’s just from having seen the stage version!

Peter Pan was wonderful and I loved that the characters ‘flew’ from their bedroom to Neverland. In fact, I thought that the addition of an extra level to the stage brought a fantastic dimension to the show which we hadn't seen last year. My favourite character was Tinkerbell. She must be great fun to play on ice.

The Little Mermaid is very well staged and it’s wonderful to see the ice full of fabulous sea creatures. I thought that the tale really lent itself to being told on ice. The stories obviously have to be shortened, else we’d be there for days, but they are all done so in a really nice way.

The skaters are so talented and it’s amazing to see the skills they have. My daughter has decided she wants to be an ice skater when she grows up. My only problem with that is that she wants Elsa to teach her how to ice skate. I ay struggle with that one!

Disney on Ice is so much fun and such a wonderful treat for children (and adults) to watch. The only down side is that the Disney refreshments are rather expensive, largely because they come with a toy/drinks container/bag. Thankfully there were some cheaper ice creams on sale by the venue and I could treat the kids to something during the interval. I would highly recommend a trip to see Disney on Ice, it’s a great treat for the whole family and we will certainly be back again in the future.

Disclosure: We were provided with two adult tickets and two child tickets for the purpose of this review. This had no impact on my post, which is honest and fair.
