How to make apple and date chutney

How to make apple and date chutney.

This is very easy and makes a great Christmas present.

Recipe
1lb (450g) dates
2lbs (900g) apples
1lb (450g) onions
1 1/2 pints vinegar
3/4lb (340g) treacle
1oz (450g) salt
1/4 (7g) oz all spice
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper

(all quantities are before they are peeled/cored/stoned)

First, stone the dates, peel and core the apples. Then slice the onions, apple and dates into really tiny pieces.

Boil the vinegar, treacle, salt and spices.
Add the fruit and simmer gently until thick.

Then ladle into jars and label and cover jars.

This is such an easy recipe although it takes about an hour to prepare and make. I made seven jars of chutney from this recipe. I will be using them as part of the Christmas hampers I am making as presents for people this year. My next how to will be how to make mini Christmas cakes to go in a hampers or just give as a gift.
