What has made me happy - Christmas week

This is quite an easy one this week! Christmas has made me very happy! For once we all managed to get on. Food was not sabotaged by my Grandma and four generations co-existed very happily together for five days. I can safely say it was one of the best Christmases in many years. My son did turn mildly evil in the afternoon, an awful mixture of tiredness, excitement and too much chocolate. Which never bodes well. He got a bit upset when it didn't snow as he had decided that it had to happen at Christmas. I think the amount of presents he received soon made up for it!

We usually travel on alternate years, last year we did an epic trip around the UK visiting family so it was really very nice just to stay within ten miles of our house this year. I don't quite feel ready to have a grown up Christmas at home with just us and the kids yet.

Without further ado, here is what has made me happy since I last wrote:

  • Afternoon tea with my husband. It was a rare treat to go shopping together so we spoiled ourselves at the end of it!
  • Being together. It is just so nice getting to spend time together as a family and I really cherish the moments we share.

  • The organisation of Christmas. This year ours was a little like a military operation, but it ran like clockwork.
  • Caving. We went down a cave on the day before Christmas Eve. I was really proud of the boy who is only three and wasn't scared.

  • A christingle service at church. The boy had helped to make the christingles earlier in the day with his grandma and it was great to see everyone enjoy them at the service.
  • The magic of Christmas. My son has been excited for weeks and on Christmas Eve we tracked Father Christmas on Google, checking out how far away he was. Then on Christmas Day we logged on to find him sunning himself on a beach!

  • My daughter, on the other hand, had a fabulous nonchalance about Christmas. She will be two in March and didn't really get what all the fuss was about!
  • Seeing family. We spent Christmas with my two sisters, my mum and my Grandma. My Dad also made the long journey up to visit the weekend before Christmas. We all live so far away from each other so it is fantastic that we know we will see each other at Christmas.
  • My son decided to photograph Christmas. Below is my favourite photo that he took, of his present from us.

How about you? What have you been doing over the festive period? What has made you happy, or made a smile creep onto your face?

It would be great if you want to join in with 'What has made me happy' too. Have a think about the little things which have made a difference to your life this week.
