Chocolate, Easter and dinosaurs

What has made me happy - week 40

This week has seen us all visiting family across the UK. I drove down to Watford on Monday night alone with two children. Luckily it was an easy journey and the snow didn't cause too much of a problem. On Tuesday I took the children to a Startrite event and they were given the amazing opportunity to walk the catwalk in the spring/summer range. Unfortunately the girl was a little scared because there were an awful lot of balloons and she seems to have developed a balloon phobia since her birthday. I was really nervous about taking the two of them on the tube but they were absolutely fine. In fact, the boy sang all the way back, whilst sitting next to a lovely lady!

From Watford, we went to Croydon to my God-daughter's birthday party. You can read more about her amazing life journey here. She turned six on Sunday and it was so good to see her doing so well. I so rarely see my best mate and, although it was too brief, it was great to catch up. From there we travelled to Oxford and spent a few days with my Dad and his family.

So, here is what has made me happy this week:
  • Time with family and friends. We have stayed with my Dad and the in laws and also seen my sisters and best friend. We so rarely get to see everyone, especially my best friend. The boy had a fantastic time at the karting birthday party. I was impressed at how well he drives!
  • Meeting the Easter Bunny. Although neither of my children believe in the Easter Bunny, I was impressed that John Lewis had a colouring section for children to sit down and be creative, then afterwards meet the Easter Bunny who gave them chocolate!

  • A trip to the zoo as a family. We went to London Zoo and had a fantastic time. The girl adored pretty much every animal, including the pigeons and the boy went giddy when we found Dory and Nemo!

  • Seeing such amazing animals up close. The tiger was my favourite!

  • An Easter walk in the sunshine, followed by an egg hunt in the garden. I think children carrying baskets look extra cute for some reason!

  • We went to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford and saw some amazing things. My favourites were this battle implement which was used in India, and the bubble-wrapped dinosaurs in the Natural History section!

  •  My little girl also made me laugh a few days ago. My step-mother was asking me whether or not my little girl was more strong-willed than her brother. My daughter looked her straight in the eye and said "I'm naughty". It really is amazing how much they understand at a young age! And yes, she is naughty.

We have had a really lovely, but tiring, week travelling around. It is very nice to be home again now though!

It would be great if you want to join in with 'What has made me happy' too. Have a think about the little things which have made a difference to your life this week.
