We were recently sent on a Spa Day to review a day out with Experience Days. I know, it's a tough life but someone has to do it! It was perfect timing. My husband and I very rarely get to spend time together, well, apart from once the children are in bed, but very little actual quality time. So, we were very pleased to send our daughter to the childminder on a different day to her usual day and use my husband's day off to go and really treat ourselves. We went to Hollins Hall in Baildon, West Yorkshire, which is a really beautiful hotel which also has a spa and a pool.
We arrived just after 10am and went straight to the pool. Our treatments weren't booked until 11.30, so we had quite a bit of time to spend in the spa. The changing room was really spacious and clean. I couldn't make my locker lock, but I didn't have anything valuable in it, so left it unlocked. The showers were absolutely freezing, no matter which setting they were on, which was just meant my shower before and after swimming was very short! My husband said the showers in the men's changing rooms was warm enough, but not hot.
We used the pool, steam room and jacuzzi. The pool wasn't busy so it was easy to swim without bumping into other people or feeling like you had to keep up to a certain pace. The jacuzzi was empty when we first got in but the second time there were five other people in, which was a bit cramped! The steam room was great, it was a really good temperature and not too hot that you struggle to breathe. It was nice to go and exercise and have a swim and my skin was in desperate need of fifteen minutes in the steam room!
My husband had a massage in the spa which he needed, having trapped a nerve the week before. He certainly wasn't in any pain once he came out so it was definitely very beneficial for him. I opted for a manicure and hot pink nails. This took around 45 minutes and was really nice to treat myself. I have probably had three manicures in my life but this was definitely the best and my nails still look good over a week later. The only facility we didn't use was the gym, because we didn't fancy getting changed again and we also didn't have too much time, because we had to pick our son up from school at 3pm.

Good points
It was fabulous to be able to sit and read a book in peace.
The pool was relatively empty so easy to swim without bumping into others.
The changing rooms were clean and modern.
Treatments were fantastic and the staff were lovely.
My manicure lasted longer than the 30 minutes and my nails are still not chipped over a week later.

Bad points
It would be good if the price included a cup of tea, or even some free water. Having to go upstairs to the bar for a drink when you are in the spa or pool area was a little frustrating.
The price of food in the bar was rather expensive.
We were not given any bathrobes or slippers, so it limited how long we spent in the pool because we didn't want to keep getting dressed and undressed.
Would I buy it?
I think that if it was on offer then I definitely would. At the moment it is £75.00 which seems OK for two half hour treatments and use of a pool, sauna and steam room. It would make a good gift for Christmas for a loved one or family. The manicure I had would cost £22.00 normally and my husband's massage would be £33.00. So you are getting £55 worth of treatments and paying £20 to use the pool, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and gym.
