On Sunday afternoon we all sat down to watch Epic courtesy of TalkTalk Box Office. It is part of our ongoing reviews for TalkTalk services and the YouView box. It costs £3.50 to rent the film in SD and £4.50 to rent it in HD. Our TV is fairly ancient, so we opted for SD because HD doesn't really make a difference with our screen! Renting the film was easy and you have to put a pin number in, so at least you know your children cannot just click and rent films and run up a bill. I like that you don't need to leave your house to go and rent the film and that there were no trailers before the film, just straight in to the action.
Epic is an animated adventure brought to you by the makers of Ice Age. It stars Beyonce, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, and Steven Tyler.
"EPIC tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good and the forces of evil. When a teen age girl finds herself magically transported into this secret universe, she must band together with a rag-tag team of fun and whimsical characters in order to save their world...and ours."
The animation was absolutely amazing. I can't even begin to imagine how intricate the detail would be in HD. The story was good and I loved the magical nature of the forest and the detail of the people who live there. It reminded me of being little and playing with flower fairies and making dens in our garden for fairies. My son enjoyed the talking slugs and I have to admit that even I laughed out loud at points in the film.
We lit the fire and all snuggled up during a cold, wet and rainy Sunday afternoon. Our daughter is only two and I wasn't sure that she would sit for the whole film. Luckily she sat still for most of it and was played nicely when she got a bit bored. Our son, who is four, sat through the whole film and ate an inordinate amount of popcorn.
Epic is well worth watching and it was so nice for all of us to sit down and watch something together because that very rarely happens. The other good thing about renting the film is that you can watch it as many times as you like in the 48 hours that you rent it for.
If you fancy watching Epic through your YouView box this half term, have a peek at the trailer to whet your appetite.
Disclosure: We were provided with a credit on our bill so that we could watch Epic for free for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own.
