We were recently sent some sachets of baobab powder, apparently the latest superfruit to hit the supermarket shelves. However, this one is a little different to all of the others and claims to have more vitamin C than six oranges, more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and 50% of your recommended daily allowance of dietary fibre. This is pretty impressive, even if I do say so myself. The very fact that it is a combination of vitamin C and iron mean that the iron absorbs into your body more easily.
The baobab has been popular in Africa for many, many years and its introduction to the UK is to help the people of Malawi to build a sustainable future. It is a fairtrade product and The Eden Project in Cornwall have hosted farmers from Africa to highlight the benefits of the fruit. The tree they grow on is absolutely amazing and looks like something plucked straight from an Enid Blyton novel!
If you eat it straight from the pack, it doesn't taste all that great, but if you add it to porridge, cereal or even include it in a drink then you barely notice the taste at all. I even managed to put it in the children's cereal in the morning without them batting an eyelid. If you fancy being a little more creative than me, check out the video below with African Chef Maclcom Riley who tells you about this mystery fruit and shows you how to make healthy baobab pancakes which your kids will enjoy.

Disclosure: We received five sachets of baobab powder for the purpose of review. This had no impact on my post which is honest and fair.
