This year is the first year that we haven't had a real tree. Mainly because we are meant to be going away for Christmas and we thought a real tree would get sad and die alone over the festive period. No-one wants that. I wasn't sure about an artificial tree, so we got one which has bare branches, fake snow and lights on the end. We have decorated it with old wooden decorations, bells and disco balls. Obviously! The wooden decorations get a bit lost on a real tree, so it is nice for them to be the main focus on this one.
