Do you have a room or area in your house where things just get dumped? To be fair, we have a couple of rooms like this and definitely a few areas (that chair in the bedroom covered in clean clothes)! The office is one of the main places which has driven me mad since we moved in here two years ago. It is full of so many things. My mum and her siblings' old comics and school books, my uncles tools, my grandad's (who died in sixteen year's ago) headed notepaper and old cameras. You get the idea. There's a lot of stuff in there that isn't ours, and not a lot of room for the things which we brought with us when we moved in.

So when I was offered the chance to makeover my workspace, I was so excited to get stuck in. It wasn't a job I had envisaged doing any time soon, but it was so exciting to have a deadline to meet, and it meant that I absolutely had to sort the space out. It took me absolutely ages to clear the space as there was so much stuff just dumped there!

office before

This is the area I planned to sort out. As you can see, it's a total dumping ground. Whenever we didn't know where to put things, they always ended up in here. So many random things, all just chucked into the space. It meant that we very rarely use the computer and printer because it's difficult to get to them. This in itself is really frustrating as I should really use that PC for B&B work, but end up using my laptop and filling it up instead.

TK Maxx home section

My husband and I headed to TK Maxx in Harrogate on our day off together to try and find some accessories for the new office area. I had a fixed idea in my head that I really wanted some pineapple  storage, and was elated to find it on the shelf in TK Maxx, and priced at only £7.99 too, it was meant to be!

I also found some lovely folders in TK Maxx which are gold and rose gold and have great quotes on them. Perfect for when I'm feeling a little low!

I really wanted to wallpaper the wall behind the computer to make it brighter and more contemporary. I looked on B&Q's website before we set off for our trip and was pleased to see that the wallpaper I wanted (Scandi Soft Lemon Geometric) was in stock, so I reserved it and simply popped in to pick it up. Whilst in B&Q, I also found grey photo frames, which I knew would look great on the wall, so I got those too. I planned to print out some quotes and pop them in the frames.

The final thing I bought for the room is a speech bubble write on light from Primark. It was £10 and I thought it was a great price for a really fun accessory.

wall quotes

The wallpaper was very simple to put up because you have to paste the wall rather than the paper. I found it so much simpler than conventional wallpaper. I did the whole wall was done in under half an hour! In fact, the decorating took far less time than it took me to clear away all the mess in the room.

The quotes I have on the wall are "Do what is right, not what is easy" and "Tough times don't last. Tough people do". I love both of them. The speech bubble is fantastic because you can write whatever you like on it.

The makeover has totally transformed my workspace and I love working in there. It's great to work in a different room to the one where the rest of the family are. I'm far more productive when I am away from the commotion and hustle and bustle of the kitchen.

The pineapple is my absolute favourite part of the whole makeover. It's fun and quirky, but it is a wonderful place for me to store my USBs and memory cards. I am forever losing them, so now they have a permanent place to live!

I absolutely love the office now and I am determined to keep it clean and tidy. It's a wonderful place for me to work and it's great not to sit in the kitchen all day, which is what I have been doing until now!
