Sometimes you get those moments, you know, the ones where you think you might have cracked being a parent. The ones where you realises you are winning at life. Let's be honest, they don't happen often, so they are absolutely to be celebrated and made the most of. As parents, we have a tough time raising our children. They certainly don't thank us for the majority of parenting that we do, and at times it can be pretty rough. I thought I would share with you my winning mum moments, and hopefully you'll share yours with me too!
Last week we were down in London and went to see Aladdin. It was absolutely amazing and we all really enjoyed it. Throughout the performance, my daughter insisted that we held up two of her toys so that they could see. My husband held the octopus throughout the show and I held the frog. She occasionally nudged us if we lowered them and at one point she told me to cover the frog's eyes as it was scared of all the bright lights. We held them for the whole show and at one point I looked across at my husband and thought, we're good parents!
Later that week, I took my children to Betty's in Ilkley for a half term treat. We had been to a charity shop on our way and my son had chosen a book 'Super Soccer Boy'. He then sat at Betty's and read his book whilst we waited for our food to arrive. I was so very proud of him. I got some very approving looks and genuinely felt so good. It definitely makes a change from being glared at when a child has a tantrum in a supermarket! It was the first time he has read for pleasure and I've had to buy the whole range of books now!
